Vemillion Snapper

The Forum

This online fishermen's forum was created by the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council at the request of fishermen across the region.

Why Join

We may pose questions, correct misinformation, and filter unsavory language. Other than that, this is a forum for you to discuss your concerns and to offer suggestions for fisheries management. Initiate dialogue that the Council and its staff can use to better represent your needs as stakeholders. Voice your concerns. We will make sure they are heard. But please note that this forum is not “on the record.” Comments for the public record should still go through the online public comment forms hosted on the Council's website.

Who Can Participate

We are excited to announce that we now have two forums for fishermen. One is for commercial snapper grouper permit holders and the other is for folks who hold charter/headboat permits for snapper grouper, coastal migratory pelagics, or dolphin wahoo. If you hold both a snapper grouper commercial permit and a charter/headboat permit, you'll be able to participate in both forums. The public can see your comments, but only the already mentioned permitted fishermen can participate at this time. There is certainly plenty of room for growth, so it is likely that we will be able to expand the forum to other users. We hope to see that happen in the future.

How to Get Started

If you are a South Atlantic commercial snapper grouper permit holder or charter/headboat permit holder, create a username, type in your information, provide an email, and submit. You'll be able to discuss fisheries issues with other commercial fishermen from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and the east coast of Florida to the Keys.

If you don't hold any of these permits, please read the discussion and take a look at the perspectives of others. Offer your thoughts and insights via the online public comment form on the Council's website. We hope to have a forum for you soon!

Fish Rules: New Mobile App
The Council has transitioned to the free mobile app Fish Rules. This app has a link to commercial regulations in the additional info section of each listed species. But, you will not be able to access that link offshore. We recognize this is inconvenient and we are working with the app developer to come up with possible solutions. We will keep you updated! (The old app, SA Fishing Regulations, is no longer being updated).
